"The thin blue line would always lie between us, with me on the side of order and him on the side of chaos."
LH Cosway exemplifies why I love to read. In no uncertain terms, she is brilliant. Her unputdownable stories encompass everything I love in a great book. I can always count on this author to overwhelm me in a literary haze with her stunning writing style and her fascinating characterization. This entire series consists of the most unforgettable, passionate, soul-searing stories surrounding the most captivating cast of characters I've ever read. Hearts of Blue can officially be added to that list. It exceeded all expectations, Cosway ensnaring me with her words yet again.
Hearts of Blue is a forbidden romance wrought with reckless attraction and devastating unpredictability. This story exists in the grey area, the blurred line between right and wrong, an invisible line that two hearts naively believe they can ignore. Karla Sheehan, a London cop, and Lee Cross, a street thug, have effectively avoided succumbing to the blistering attraction between them for months. It turns out that the thin blue line separating good from bad, right from wrong is thinner than either side ever knew until they each discover something they desperately long for on the other side. The laws of attraction trump the laws of the land in this book and the course of events that follow are rife with heartbreak, sexual tension, and brutal uncertainty.
I never expected to love Lee Cross the way I did. He's the bad boy personified, but every sweet, sexy, flirtatious word out of his smart mouth ensured there was no resisting this intense attraction. It's no wonder straightlaced Karla couldn't do it either. But damn it if she didn't try. This story had me laughing out loud and smiling from ear to ear more than once. As intense and emotional as this plot was at times, there's an abundance of humorous exchanges and witty banter between every magnetic character within these pages... and there are many. Hearts of Blue is as heartwarming as it is angst-ridden, as sweet and sexy as it is nerve wracking. The sweet moments left me swooning, while the unpredictable, dangerous side of this story had my heart racing, my stomach in knots.
LH Cosway has unsurprisingly delivered another spellbinding, smart love story of two hearts facing impossible odds and she put me through a whole gamut of emotions on every single page. I loved everything about this story and just when I thought I couldn't feel more satisfied, Cosway teased me with glimpses into the next two installments about the PRECISE characters I prayed would get their own books. This series continues to blow my mind with every story and I can not wait for more.
“Oh, shut it.” I rolled my eyes. There was nothing attractive about my uniform. It was basically men’s clothing on a woman.
“I’m not lying. How’s about you come up to my room for a bit and I’ll show you how much I like it?” He paused, eyes flicking to the top of my head as he winked. “You can even leave your hat on.”
Completely against my own will, I snickered a laugh, folding my arms across my chest. “No thanks, Tom Jones.”
“I think you’ll find it was Randy Newman who penned the tune. Tom Jones did the cover,” Lee quipped.
I made a concerted effort to regain my professionalism and throw a bucket of cold water over his flirty banter. “When you see your brother, tell him to get himself down the nick to see me.”
“Fucking hell, Snap, you really are Ross Sheehan’s daughter. Growing up must have been shit for you.”
The empathy in his voice caught me off guard. I swallowed but didn’t say anything. Our gazes locked and held, something thick and unspoken passing between us. He took a step outside, past the threshold of his doorway and onto the street. I glanced down at the toes of my boots and back up again, a strand of hair falling from behind my ear. Lee’s hand reached out, as though he were about to tuck it back in, but then he froze before he could touch me. Touching a constable could technically be considered assault. And technically, I could arrest him for that. Maybe that’s why he stopped. Or maybe it was something else.
His eyes softened when he whispered, “If that cranky string of piss weren’t with you right now, it’d be a whole other ball game.”
I looked to Tony, who had just finished with his call. Lee turned and casually went back inside his house, closing the door softly behind him.
