I was never ready to let Jake, Tru, and The Mighty Storm go and I'm so happy that Samantha Towle couldn't either. This novella wasn't nearly long enough for my taste, but I'll take any morsel of TMS any way I can. The story of Jake Wethers' rise to rock stardom was a tragic road paved with drug abuse, sex and heartbreak. In The Storm, the ghosts of the past come back to haunt Jake and Tru and the future is more uncertain than ever.

This story is a painful, unexpected one, with Towle taking her readers down a path I never considered in all my speculation and book discussions leading up to it. The Storm takes us back to the difficult days where Jake and his band mates were lost in the haze of alcohol, drugs and groupies. It takes us forward to the life Jake and Tru have built for their beautiful family. And it takes us through unexpected obstacles, through a storm that thoroughly blindsides everyone. It's the complete package, this little novella, rife with loss, painful memories, hope for the future, and the heartbreaking course of events that brings it all together.

Samantha Towle relentlessly tugs the heartstrings with The Storm, from the initial introduction to Jake's current state of happily ever after right down to the very last chapter that will surely break hearts and bring tears. The Mighty Storm fans have long awaited more Jake, more Tru, more angst and unpredictability, and this bittersweet novella does not disappoint.

Jessica's Rating:

I’m just mid piss when I hear my baby girl’s sleepy voice from behind me, “Dada, why I not have a peenis?”

Shifting to the side so that I’m covering myself from Belle’s view, I glance over my shoulder, a chuckle escaping me. “’Cause you’re a girl, Beauty.”

“But I wanna be a boy, like you, JJ, and Billy.” She juts her lips out, pouting. “I wanna peenis!”

She’s standing there, demanding a penis, in her Disney princess pajamas, with her arms folded across her chest, her foot tapping.

God, she is exactly like her mother. Not that Tru ever wanted a cock—well, aside from mine inside her, of course.

But Belle has Tru’s steely determination, and she looks exactly like her mother, which means trouble for me when she’s older.

But like I know how to handle my wife’s temperament, I know how to handle Belle.

“Okay, Beauty, how about this?” I say in a pacifying tone, holding in my laughter. I tuck myself back into my pajama pants and go to wash my hands. “Why don’t you ask Santa for a penis for Christmas?” The second that I’ve said it, I know that it sounds all kinds of wrong. It’s so wrong that I wish to God I could take it back.

“Santa, give me a peenis!” Belle starts squealing, jumping around and clapping her hands.

“Fuck. Shit! No!” I panic as soon as the words leave my mouth, knowing exactly what Belle is like.

A goddamn parrot is what she’s like.

“Fuck! Shit! Santa, peenis!” Belle starts to mimic, hands still clapping together.

Crap. Tru is going to kill me. Kill me dead.

“Christ.” I cover my face with my hands. “Belle, no.”

I reach down and pick her up. She wraps her little chubby legs around my hips, her hands clutching at my neck.

“Don’t say those words. Bad words.” I touch my fingertip to her nose, staring into her big brown eyes—Tru’s eyes.

“Fuck. Sh—”

“Bad words,” I reiterate, giving her a serious look. “We do not repeat those words. Ever. And especially not in front of Mommy. Okay?”

“So, Santa gimme peenis if I say no bad wowds?”

“Oh God,” I groan.

“Santa! Peenis!” She giggles.

“Breakfast, Belle!” I exclaim. “You want some Frozen cereal?” I say to distract her.

That fucking annoying Disney film is her favorite, and she will only eat that particular brand of cereal.

“Fwozen!” she shrieks.

Then, she launches into the chorus of “Let It Go” as I carry her out of the bathroom, heading downstairs to the kitchen where my tribe should be.

12/26/15

MY TOP 15 FAVORITE READS OF 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you believe another year is over? I can't believe it. It feels like just yesterday that we were ringing in the 2015. And of course with every year, we sit back and reminisce about what's gone on, both good and bad, and I couldn't help but think of some of the amazing books I have read this year! It was a really great year! So without further adieu, I am revealing the TOP 15 books that made me want to have a party they were so freaking good!

First up....
A Court of Thorn and Roses by Sarah J Mass!
PURCHASE HERE:
AMAZON | BARNES | iBOOKS

This is my #1 favorite read of the year. I felt EVERYTHING -- all the feels -- while reading this novel. From the gorgeous romance, to the riveting plot line, to the absolutely spellbinding world the author created, I was owned. It has a host of characters that are both charming and evil, sweet and fierce, and I couldn't help but fall so deep in love with each of them. I say if you're looking for a read, choose this one. It's fantasy, it's not smutty, but it's FABULOUS and I guarantee you'll be captivated by every word.
With a Twist and Chaser by Staci Hart!
PURCHASE HERE:
WaT - AMAZON | CHASER - AMAZON

Both, With a Twist and Chaser, were the perfect RomCom reads. The characters became family, keeping me completely invested in their lives. These books are FEEL good novels. They're light on the angst, heavy on the laughs and feels. They have slow building romances that sizzle page after page, captivating you over and over again. Staci Hart was a "NEW to ME" author that I fell so deeply in love with. I couldn't believe I hadn't read her before 2015 and she has now become one of my "drop everything to read" authors! I love the "Habits" crew and I'm anxiously awaiting Tricky and Rose's book coming in Feb. This series is an ULTIMATE pleasure to read. There isn't a single thing that I don't absolutely love about these books.

PS: Both Chaser and Twist can be read as Standalones, though I'm not sure why you would want to skip any of the books!!!!! They are SO good.
Break Even by Lisa De Jong!
PURCHASE HERE:
AMAZON

This book. OMGoodness. THIS BOOK. Let's just say that this novel had me in its clutches from the first to the last word. Angsty, tumultuous, with a touch of suspense that takes you by storm. Lisa De Jong nails the emotions and I don't think I took a single breath while reading. Without a doubt a fave that I'll recommend again and again to those who like to FEEL. The characters are flawed, but they are real, and I just LOVED every word!
First Touch by Laurelin Paige!
PURCHASE HERE:

Oh! Oh! Oh! My God. I'm trying to think of what to say about this book because... I don't think any words can do it justice. Laurelin weaves a tail that's unbelievably addicting. Reeve and Emily have you on the edge of your seat with every flick of the page. This book has a little mystery and suspense, keeping you riveted until the end. The author knocked it out of the park and I am DYING for the second book which is due to arrive next year. The sex is hot, the story is captivating, and the characters are by far some of my favs! A definite must read.
Tempting by Alex Lucian!
PURCHASE HERE:

This novel had me screaming my head off to everyone and anyone. A student/teacher romance that has EVERYTHING I want. I don't know where this author came from but I am hoping that him/her is here to stay. This is my 2015 "INDIE GEM" alert. It's one of those finds that restored my hope in "new to me" authors. Flawless writing, intoxicating characters, and a plot that was riveting and FANTASTIC.
Tainted Black by Shanora Williams!
PURCHASE HERE:

Do you like a forbidden romance? Because I LIVE for them. They are my faves. Sometimes it's hard to find a really good one, but OMG, THIS BOOK IS WHOA. Every cell in my body was attuned to these characters and this story. I was overwhelmed as I read page after page just needing them to find each other. Wrong, right, it didn't matter, I was SOLD. It's honestly a FABULOUS romance that leaves you gasping. And still, months later, I think of it as one of my absolute MUST reads.

Manwhore + Manwhore + 1 by Katy Evans!
PURCHASE HERE:

Let's face it, there isn't a Katy Evans book that is not one of my ULTIMATE faves. The woman writes stories just for ME <<------Well (Hahahahahaha), maybe not just for me, but it sure feels that way. Malcolm Saint was the PERFECT Hero in my eyes. This series is both angsty and sensual, romantic and well.... just beautiful. It's a story about a broken hero who finds a girl who softens him up and makes him vulnerable enough to take the risk of loving her. It's stunning and gives me ALL those feels I'm desperate to find in my books. I LOVED it. I LOVED Rachel and her friends, I loved Saint and his posse, and I NEED more. But with Katy Evans I always need more.
Priest by Sierra Simone!
PURCHASE HERE:

This novel made me feel like a flipping SINNER. I swear, I was wide eyed and sweaty reading it. LMAO. Father Bell and Poppy are as FORBIDDEN as they come. They pushed my boundaries in the best way and I just DEVOURED every word without a care. I cannot stress how HOT the sex is. It's ON FIRE. Some scenes literally have you panting for your next breath. This author can write and I am eager to read more from her again.
Pucked by Helena Hunting!
PURCHASE HERE:

FUNNY. LOUD OUT LOUD FUNNY. Omg, so many laughs. <<--- Redundant, I know, but that is the thing that I loved most about this book. It had me giggling time and time again. The characters are entirely lovable and the humor (at times crude) was just perfection. This is another read where the sexy times were hot, but while that was amazing, the feels were wonderful. I LOVE this author and I really cannot say enough about how good this book had me feeling.
Walk through Fire by Kristen Ashley!
PURCHASE HERE:

What is there to say? Kristen Ashley is a go to author who I trust to reliever me a read that wholly consuming time and time again. Walk through Fire was no different. It was packed with raw emotion that had me smiling, crying, and screaming in both pain and joy. I absolutely ADORE the Chaos boys and I just cannot recommend this series or this author enough. ANYTHING KA always rocks, but Logan and Millie ripped me apart in the best way.
The Deal by Elle Kennedy
PURCHASE HERE:

OMGGGGGGGGG! GARRET **cue dreamy eyes** I think I LOVED this book so much because it was sweet. The romance is slow building, a friends to lovers sort of thing, and it just takes your heart and makes it all soft and swoony. This is a lighter read, not crazy on the angst and though it follows a formula, every aspect of it is amazing. I've recommended it so many times, especially to those who love a really GOOD sports romance.
Maldeamores by Mara White!
PURCHASE HERE:

This is a novel that changed me as a reader. The story covers a topic that had me entirely uncomfortable and when I chose to read it, I went in knowing NOTHING. Not a word of the blurb was read before I started. And OH. MY. GOD. was I ever blown away. It destroyed my heart in the most INTENSE way. I cannot even explain it. This is a book that has to be EXPERIENCED. It's a read that you might think you won't like, but I can guarantee you will. It will have you rooting for a couple who in society standards should NOT be together. It's PHENOMENAL.
Breathe by Kristen Ashley!
PURCHASE HERE:

AHHHHHH. Chase is my most FAVE KA Hero EVER. I know that's crazy, because all of KA'S alpha's are incredible, but this romance, and this man, and this Heroine (Faye) had me completely knotted up. I will NEVER forget their love story. And though Breathe didn't release in 2015, it was my first time reading the novel and I could NOT keep it off the list. I don't even care. Chase owns me. Faye is ME in book form and I wish I could "Hold out for a Hero" the way Faye held out for Chase. The most DECADENT romance. I couldn't love it anymore than I do.

PURCHASE HERE:
How would I describe Dear Professor?
An intoxicating ride of sexy, scandalous, and down right addictive angst. Wholly consuming. And utterly good.

I mean lets be honest, that blurb... it sells the book. If that blurb doesn't scream "READ ME" to you, I don't know what will. This author checked off all my boxes when looking for a read.

She had a sexy cover.
A scrumptiously enticing blurb.
And teasers that had me chomping at the bit to get my hands on the book.

To say I was excited to read would be an understatement. I was totally ready to devour each and every line and I did. I read this book until I had to deal with life and then I proceeded to think about the book until I could get back to it. Dear Professor consumed me and had me gasping from the first word in the prologue, to the last in the epilogue.

Blaire Drakes writing is crisp and clean, made for me in every way. She has a beautiful way of setting the scene for the story and a wonderful way of packing in the feels. From the steamy tension, to the scorching hot sex, to the intense emotion, to the soft and swoony feels, this had it all.

I was memorized by the seductive prologue and then stolen by Darcy and Jordan's journey. It starts with a bang. Professor Jordan Keaton has been watching Darcy's live cam shows. Darcy is a Cam Girl. She uses that to finance her way through school.

What I loved so much about Darcy was the way she owned her sexuality. She wasn't a tiny bit ashamed by what she was doing to earn money. Sure, she didn't want it public knowledge but there was this underlying confidence, this strong and fierce spirit, that really shined with her. And I felt myself latching on to her fighting spirit and really falling in love with her.

The Professor (Jordan) has an obsession, an intense addiction, with Darcy and sets out to make her his. And make her his he does.
OH MY GOD.

It's freaking riveting. I don't want to get into an entire plot breakdown, but I will tell you that I was left reeling in some parts. The Professor is more Villain than Hero at times and you really don't know why you love him. I mean, you know you shouldn't. He's bad! He's doing awful things, but Gahhhhhhhhh!!! He is so sexy and you can't help it. You can't stop yourself from falling in love with him. He's possessive and alpha and messed up, but also oddly human in his crazy moment.

The story itself has a ton of twists and turns. You'll think you're getting one thing and before you know it you are hit with something else. It's never boring. And it's definitely got something that sets it apart from other Student/Teacher novels.

Overall, I LOVED it.

I LOVED the writing and the characters. I LOVED the scorching heat in the steamy scenes. I LOVED the scandalous feel of the first 60%. I LOVED that the Professor was more villain than Hero, and that Darcy was a wicked little seductresses that fought for herself and what she wanted. I LOVED the way the story played out. And I really, really, really LOVED that freaking Epilogue! Holy swoon.

For me, It was a solid 4 star. Very enjoyable.
And I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Angie's Rating:

His electric blue eyes focused on me, and in the bright hue of his gaze, the rest of his office seemed to melt away. I had no idea how he kept doing that to me—it was almost as if he were casting a spell over me, hypnotizing me with nothing more than a glance.

My heart thumped loudly in my chest at the lust I saw burning back at me. That hard-edged, animalistic lust that secretly drove me wild. I’d never tell him that. I was certain of it. I’d never give him that much power over me.

He already had enough.

“What’s wrong, sir?” I asked as I coyly twirled a piece of my hair around my finger.

“You’re starting to piss me off, Darcy,” he shot at me. The rough edge to his voice rumbled through the air between us until it hit me full-force. His words crawled over my skin, and each one carried the whispered promise. Or maybe it was a threat; I couldn’t tell.

“How can I piss you off? I haven’t done anything.” It was a petulant response, I knew that, but I didn’t care.

He pushed up out of his chair and stalked around his desk. I inhaled sharply, but he swept right past me and toward his door. Just when I thought he might pull it open and send me on my way, he turned the lock.

The click echoed through the air, and it did nothing for the butterflies that were rapidly fluttering in my stomach.

I hated him. It was getting clearer and clearer to me every day. I despised Professor Jordan Keaton, but I also craved him as badly as I needed my next breath.

He didn’t look at me as he shrugged off his jacket and hung it up on the hook on the door. He still didn’t look at me as he unbuttoned the sleeves of his crisp, white shirt and rolled them up to above his elbows. His upper arms seemed to strain against the fabric, his toned biceps becoming delightfully visible.

“Now, let’s try this again,” he said, his voice deathly low. It scared me and thrilled me all at the same time. “Have a little think, Darcy. Imagine why I might possibly be pissed off with you.”

I dropped the lock of hair I was twirling and looked at his pants. The bulge gave his attraction to me away. “I’m standing in front of you as opposed to being on my knees with your cock in my mouth?”

He jerked his head around, piercing me with those eyes. “Keep running your mouth, sweet thing. I dare you.”

“Or what? Really, what are you going to do to me in your office, Professor? Give me lines? Make me write an essay on why young ladies should be seen and not heard?”

His jaw ticked, his lips tightening, and he moved toward me so quickly I took a step backward. It was useless, though, like I knew it would be. The grip he had on my wrist was so certain, the tug toward him so strong, that I couldn’t fight him.

My body slammed into his, and no sooner had the air rushed from my body than he pulled the skirt of my dress up. Cold air flitted across my bare backside, but it was replaced almost instantly with one sharp smack.

My pussy clenched, and I bit the inside of my cheek to stop myself whimpering. In pain or pleasure—I had no clue.

“That,” he growled into my ear. “That is what I’ll do if you keep sassing me, Miss Hamilton.”

I wondered if he knew how strongly I was considering continuing to sass him just for that purpose. I would do that later—I needed to know what had got him so riled. “Understood,” I said in a softer tone. “What did I do?”

He let go of my dress and slid his hand up my back. His breath was hot against my skin as he sunk his fingers into my hair and turned me around so my back was to him. “Last night,” he replied, his lips close to my ear. “Your little show.”

“That’s my job.”

He tugged on my hair. “Did you ask me?”

“You’re not my boss, Jordan. Neither are you my fucking keeper.”

His grip grew tighter, so much so that my head tilted back. “Darcy. Did. You. Fucking. Ask. Me?”

“No,” I ground out, my jaw clamped tightly.

“Did you think I wouldn’t find out? Did you really fucking think I wouldn’t know that you were spending your night in front of your camera, with your finger rubbing that little clit of yours?” Roughly, he pushed his hand beneath my dress and teased his fingertips along the line of my panties. “Did you think you’d be able to walk into my classroom today and I wouldn’t know that at least one or two of those students hadn’t watched you as you fucked your own fingers?”

“No,” I breathed out, my lips parting as his hand dipped beneath my panties. The tip of one of his fingers ghosted across my clit, and it sent a bolt of pleasure through me.

“I didn’t hear you,” he rasped in my ear, flicking his finger across my clit.

“No,” I repeat, this time more forcefully. “I knew you would. And I didn’t give a shit.” I gasped as he pushed down hard on the sensitive spot.

“We made a deal,” he reminded me, his tone tight with anger… And thick with desire.

“And you won’t let me forget it.”

“Damn straight I won’t.” He pulled his hand from between my legs but kept me in place with his grip on my hair. “Now are you going to renege on it again or are you going to behave yourself?”

“From the man who just had his fingers on a student’s clit?”

“You’re pushing me, Darcy.”

I reached behind me, between us, and cupped his long, hard cock with my hand. The zipper of his pants pushed into my palm, and I traced my thumb down the side of his erection. “I’m not the only thing pushing, am I?”

“Fuck.” He hissed the word out, and the next thing I knew, my dress was being lifted up, and he let go of my hair.

My hands slammed against his desk as he bent me forward and moved my panties to the side. He’d barely touched me, but I could feel my pussy throbbing in anticipation of what was to come.

I knew this would be a cold, hard fuck, designed to remind me who I belonged to. Who, for all intents and purposes, owned my body.

It would be a reminder and a punishment, all because I dared to take control of myself for one night and defy him.

Jordan’s movements were as smooth as always, and he spread one of my ass cheeks with a strong hand. His fingertips dug in almost painfully, but I didn’t care, because I sighed in relief as he pushed his hard, thick cock inside me.

“Now, this is how this is gonna work,” he rasped into my ear as he grasped my hair and tugged. “Since you’ve forgotten, Darcy, you need a reminder, don’t you?”

I didn’t dare answer. The question was rhetorical. Besides, I was already practically panting from his swift invasion of my body.

“Now, I’m gonna fuck you.”

I swallowed and glanced at the shadows of people walking past his office door, a tiny lock and frosted glass providing us limited privacy. I’d known it was coming, sure, but now we were here, silent, and I could hear the people outside…

I couldn’t deny the excitement that swept through my body at the thought we could be interrupted any second. That someone could walk right up to this door and probably see the vague silhouette of him fucking me from behind.

I felt dirty, but I liked it.

“And you got it, Darcy.” He pulled out and slammed right back into me, making me bite down on my lower lip. “I’m gonna fuck you, and you’re not gonna make a sound. Understand?”

I didn’t answer for fear that I’d whimper instead of respond yes. I just nodded and sucked my lower lip into my mouth.

“Good girl.” The words were but a whisper, but they were two I was becoming rapidly acquainted with.

And worse? I liked it when he said it.

He was reminding me of more than he knew… Like what it meant to fuck because lust was just too strong.

He pulled out of me slowly. With the head of his cock resting at the opening to my pussy, he gripped my ass tightly. “Who do you belong to, Darcy?”

I didn’t answer.

The sting didn’t surprise me when it came.

“Answer the question.”

“You,” I whispered.

He gently caressed the spot he just slapped. “And who owns your body, Darcy?” I arched my back as his cock entered me fully. “Who does this tight, wet pussy belong to? Who decides who and what gets to be inside it?”

It… Like it’s a tool… Just a toy for his amusement. Just like I am.
“You.” There was no other option.

“That’s right. You and your wet pussy are mine. I own you, sweet thing. Every single fucking inch of your gorgeous body is mine.”

His words… The possessiveness sent thrills through me as he moved inside me. I couldn’t deny it. I couldn’t deny how fucking turned on they made me, and I hated myself for it. I hated how he commanded my body, and I hated that I let him.

“Now.” He stilled, his hand still resting on my ass, and slowly let go of my hair. The raven curls tumbled over my shoulder and onto the desk, and I felt the loss of him before it happened.

He eased out of me, and ever the gentleman, slipped my panties back over me. Great. Now I’d be walking around all day wanting to screw anyone reasonably good looking.

I pushed myself to standing as soon as I heard him take a step to the side. I looked at him just in time to see him zipping his pants back up and tucking his shirt in. His tie hung a little lopsided, and I raised my eyes from his neck.

Our gazes collided with heart-thumping ferocity. The slow, sexy curve of his lips to one side did nothing to calm the quick two-step beat my heart had just taken up, but I didn’t dare to look away. Even if I did, I don’t think I could have. His eyes were the net, and I was nothing but a tiny fish, tangled up in him.

“Seven o’clock tonight. I’ll be waiting.”

“What for?” I questioned as he walked toward the door without moving his eyes from mine.

He unlocked the door, and the smirk he shot me was dirty. I sighed and grabbed my purse from the chair, then walked toward him. I reached for the handle at the same time he grabbed my chin.

His mouth touched mine, searing onto my lips with its fierceness.

Another reminder.

He pulled away as briskly as he kissed me, but that still didn’t stop me from touching my thumb to my lower lip.

“Remember,” he murmured, opening the door. “Seven. Don’t be late.”

Blaire Drake is a pseudonym for a New York Times bestselling author who wanted to think outside her box and write the kind of things that would shock even them. She loves taboo romance and pushing boundaries in her work. She also enjoys long walks on the beach at sunset, as long as it’ll be follo
wed by a good, old-fashioned spanking right after.
DEAR PROFESSOR is her debut standalone novel, and her next book, PRETTY PORNSTAR, is also a standalone novel that promises to be equally as taboo and sexy.

Focus, De Sant.

“Marcelle,” Roksana's heavy accent broke him out of his deep thoughts. “You are not paying ATTENTION!

There was a whistling sound, and Marc barely had time to flinch before something sliced across his chest. He shook in his restraints, clenching all his muscles, willing the pain away.

Goddamn, that never gets any less painful.
“Of course I am, sweetheart,” he panted, looking up at her. “You have my undivided attention.”

Roksana was a very … interesting woman. Stunningly beautiful, but scary beyond words. She favored small blades and thin whips – Mrs. Stankovski would not be outdone by her husband in the evil villain department. If Marc didn't give her the answers she wanted, he got whipped. If he tried the silent treatment, he got cut. Sometimes, there didn't even need to be a reason. She would just walk into the room, carve her initials into his chest, then walk back out.

Marc had met the little woman before, on the third or fourth job he'd done for Stankovski's Bratva. She'd been icy and taciturn during the introductions, but when he'd gone to leave, she'd walked him to the door, grabbed his dick, and told him to give her a call some time.

Charming.

He'd never taken her up on her offer, but he knew many men did – bodyguards, drivers, influential friends. Marc wasn't sure if they had an “open relationship”, or if her husband just didn't care that she fucked anything that moved. Any time Marc had been forced into her presence, she'd propositioned him. He'd always turned her down, and apparently, she hadn't appreciated that one little bit. Now that she had him captive, she didn't seem eager to let him go again.

Someone should've told her I'm not into BDSM.

“You are not protecting anyone. I know you haven't been in contact with that awful woman. I know she's the real reason why you stole our diamonds, I don't blame you at all, dear,” she kept her voice breathy as she bent over and put her hands on her knees, giving him a perfect view of her cleavage.

“Really? That's sweet. Pity you're wrong. I stole those diamonds from her, dropped her like a bad habit. She probably wants to see me dead more than you,” he lied to her. Well, not a total lie – wherever Lily was, she probably did wish he was dead.

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ..., forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.
I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

Have you read Best Laid Plans (Book #1) in the series?! If not, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! It's an OMG read. One of my TOP faves this year. Go run and grab it now!!!

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.
His name is Michael Crist.
My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.
Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.
Because he’s finally noticed me.
Michael
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.
In my city.
Unprotected.
The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.
We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

This book. Holy shit.

Talk about a wicked web of unpredictability. Talk about a side to Penelope Douglas we've never seen before. Talk about a book I cant get out of my mind. Talk about dark. Morally repugnant and downright perverse, Corrupt is an unsavory story of lust and revenge, deep seeded hatred and brutal unrequited love. This story shocked me with an onslaught of unexpected feelings, gutting me and setting me free all at once. This captivating, fiercely raw story of desolation and violence, fear and burning need, honest to freaking God, gripped me from beginning to end. If you're looking for the kind of book that will claw its way into your veins and tilt your world on end, Penelope Douglas' Corrupt IS. THAT. BOOK.

From the very first pages, this story had plunged its way under my skin and burrowed in. I felt actual terror while reading this story, profound dread, utter despair. But through all the treachery was this niggling hope that maybe... maybe there was a chance for some form of a happy-ish ending. I wouldn't even allow myself to dare consider the possibility of a true blue happy ending in the classic sense of the word and once you meet Michael Crist, you'll see why. The ruthless juxtaposition of cruelty and lust, yearning and loathing, love and terror within these pages... that perfectly plotted out controlled chaos does crazy things to a reader. I was sickened and forlorn, but my heart raced with uncertain excitement. Such a twisted, tumultuous course of events evolves in this book.

Penelope Douglas has woven a wicked web of secrecy, deceit and mind games in Corrupt. There's no way to know which way is up with this story, nothing truly making sense until it does. Until it unfolds in explosive twist after twist. I've been a fan of this author since reading Bully what seems like forever ago. Through that entire series it was clear that Douglas is an author with a hardcore propensity for angsty, emotionally turbulent storylines. It's my own craving for those painful, gripping stories that always keeps me coming back for more. With that said, I had no idea what this author was capable of, what her box of literary tricks still held. Corrupt is proof that box is fathomless. She seriously upped the ante with Corrupt, delving deep into the darker side of romance, the ugly side of fiction in general and executing this gritty, unforgettable, twisted tale that, in my opinion, is her best writing, best story telling, best best best everything yet.

I think most readers are going to freaking love this book. A few are going to hate it because it pushes boundaries, makes you a little uncomfortable, makes you hate the characters you love and love the characters you want to hate. Isn't that what corruption is though? Taking the clean and dirtying it up a bit? That's what Penelope Douglas did to me, corrupting this romance reader with the dirt and grime and ugliness of this story and making me love it, crave it, want more and more and more. It ruined me. The whole premise of this book is about pushing your own boundaries, breaking the rules, discovering exactly what you're made of when you stop doing what people expect and start doing whatever the hell you want. That's the story and that's the author. Penelope Douglas pushed herself and, in turn, pushed me. She broke the rules, broke boundaries, showed us what she's made of with her storytelling and her brilliant writing. And she fucking killed it.

Jessica's Rating:

GAHHHH.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHH.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I have to take a minute to calm my shit, but I will say that that was f**king INSANE. I didn't know what I was going to get. I have read exactly one Penelope Douglas book and it was Bully --which I really liked-- and this being a DARK read, well I wasn't sure how dark she was going to go. I had no idea what she was going to give me and I went into this with a shitload of curiosity and a sprinkling of hesitation that I was going to be left underwhelmed and that it would not live up to the kick butt blurb.

It did. It totally lived up to the blurb. I was NOT disappointed. Not even one little bit. Holy f**king sh*tballs of fire and ice.

It was dark. Not overly dark, but pretty fucking wicked. I know I'm swearing a lot, but f++k me. F**KKKKKKKK. This book is no joke. My heart is still beating wildly. Corrupt incites passion in the reader. Whether it's fear/anxiety/worry/lust/pain/love, it pulls emotion out of you in the most viciously incredible way. It's dysfunctional, yet seductive and compelling and just addicting.

The sex is hot and full of raw and volatile feels. The characters are spellbinding and completely unreal. You're either loving them or hating them. The back and forth, the tug of war, is so tangible you feel it rip apart every seam of your heart time and time again.

I felt pain.
I felt lust--serious, serious lust.
I felt intense anger--rage.
I felt betrayed.
I felt curious.
I felt overwhelmed.
I felt intrigued.
I felt scared.
I felt anxious.
I felt so many freaking things.

I really... God, I'm rambling at this point. I don't know what to say. I'm definitely not going to give you a plot break down. Just go into this book blind. AND BE FREAKING READY! It's nuts. I certainly don't think it's an "everybody" book, but I will tell you that Corrupt is really well written. VERY. VERY. VERY well written.

I'm kind of blown away.
Actually, I'm really freaking blown away.
I'm just speechless.

Angie's Rating:

I turned and stalked off, taking a left down the hallway toward the elevator. The doors opened as soon as I pushed the button, and I stepped inside, trying to calm my racing heart.
They still intimidated me.
And excited me. And challenged me. And knotted me up.
I’d kind of wanted to go to a party but not with them.
The doors started closing, but just then a hand shot into the elevator, and I jumped, seeing the doors re-open. I sucked in a breath, staring wide-eyed as Michael reached in, grabbed my shirt by the collar with one hand, and pulled me out.
“Michael!” I shouted.
I stumbled into him, and before I knew what was happening, he grabbed my wrists and locked them behind my back, walking into me and forcing me backward, back down the hall toward the kitchen.
“Let me go!” I demanded, my lips brushing the tip of his chin.
“I don’t know, guys,” he teased over my head, “she still seems pretty fucking easy to push around. What do you think?”
Laughter greeted me as he forced me back into the living area.
Every muscle in my body was on fire, and the tips of my toes kept getting caught under his sneakers.
I twisted my body, trying to break his hold. “What the hell are you doing?”
I pushed against his chest and jerked my body to the left, tearing out of his hold with every muscle I could muster.
I stumbled, losing my balance, and fell backward, crashing to the floor. Pain shot through my ass, running down my legs as the fall knocked the wind out me.
Shit!
Shooting my hands behind me, I pushed myself up and bent my knees, looking up at him as he advanced.
He stalked over and then stopped, towering over me.  I immediately moved my hands and feet, crawling backward, away from him.
But then I felt something at my back, and I halted. I twisted my head, seeing a dark pant leg, and I didn’t know if it was Damon, Will, or Kai, but it didn’t matter. I was closed in.
Oh, no. I slowly raised my eyes, seeing Michael’s lips tilt in a devious smile. I stopped breathing, seeing him lower his body to the floor, planting his knees between my bent legs, and his hands at my sides.
My neck arched back as his face hovered over mine, but I tried to keep myself up as much as possible, no matter how close his body got.
“I thought you were one of us,” his whispered, his breath caressing my lips. “I thought you could play.”
I stilled, staring into his eyes.
You’re one of us now. Will had said that to me on that night so long ago.
Michael’s amber eyes searched mine and then dropped to my mouth, his breathing growing heavy as he stared at me like he was about to take a bite.
I wanted to cry. What the hell was going on?
Three years ago was nearly the happiest night of my life, and it quickly became the worst. And ever since then, Michael not only acted as if I didn’t exist, but also, at times, as if he wished I didn’t.
Now the guys were free, and they were all back together again. What did I have to do with any of this? What did he want with me?
“I don’t know this game,” I told him, barely audible.
He stared into my eyes, thinning his own as if studying me. “All you need to know,” he finally answered, “is that you can’t tap out.”
