Title: One True Love
Series: Standalone
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Release Date: June 7, 2016!

From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a People Magazine pick and a "Best Book of the Summer" by Glamour and USA TODAY—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancĂ© who has finally brought her back to life.
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancĂ©, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.

One True Loves is a paradox, a beautiful contradiction. It's a hopeful tragedy, a painstaking happily ever after.  Crafting a story that is equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking is quite a task and this author executes it masterfully. It's a blessing to be given a second chance at love after having it stolen away so brutally, but that second chance becomes a curse when Emma Blair is forced to choose between the two great loves of her life. It's tragic and beautiful and joyous and sad and so many things that can't be named. One miracle, and one subsequent decision, simultaneously heals hearts and breaks them. This story is pure and passionate and gripping and it put me through an entire gamut of emotions. Taylor Jenkins Reid illustrates the multiple facets of love, of joy, of contentment, of heartbreak, of loss, of grief and she does it so excruciatingly well.

The ability to chose is supposed to be freeing but Emma Blair's choice doesn't feel like freedom. It feels like captivity. Jesse Lerner is wild, Sam Kemper is peace. Jesse is adventure and spontaneity, Sam is serenity and security. These men are equally captivating, profoundly loyal, and deeply in love with Emma. I dare any reader to steadfastly choose one man over the other and never waiver. It's impossible. I went into this story connecting with one of them but as the story evolved, as Emma grew and changed, so did I. I wavered and did so repeatedly. My adoration for these men morphed and ebbed and what I wanted for Emma changed dramatically with each turn of the page. Taylor Jenkins Reid executes this story spectacularly in that the reader will be just as torn, just as pained, just as invested and tormented by this impossible, heartbreaking decision as Emma is.

This is very much a love story. Two, actually. But so much more importantly, it's a story of self-discovery. It's about far more than deciding who to love, it's about deciding who you are. The course of events in this book follows Emma as she struggles to decide which life she wants and who she wants to live it with. It's an impossible choice, a devastating one. I couldn't fathom the possibly of leaving either Sam or Jesse behind after having spent years loving them each so deeply, so honestly, so differently. But this story, the message, the bigger picture, is much more than deciding who to love. It's about deciding who to be. This is the story of how one woman decides which parts of herself are truest and which man would subsequently fit into place next to her once she discovers who she truly is.

I devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down and even when I thought I was finished, I was haunted by it. I came away knowing it was fantastic, but the more I really reflected on it, the more in love I fell. One True Loves is such an emotionally charged, bittersweet story. There is as much joy as there is despair within these pages. It's heartfelt and hopeful but it's also profoundly sad for more reasons than I can count. This book stays with you. It's stayed with me and I'm torn about how I feel about that. It's beautiful and wonderful enough that I want to hold tight to it, but it's devastating enough that I wish I could just set my grief down and walk away for a bit. Prepare to be torn apart and put back together by this book. Prepare to be both devastated and captivated by this smart, evocative romance. One True Loves is a story that left my cracked, bruised heart overflowing with joy and contentment and if that doesn't embody a truly perfect, unforgettable work of fiction, I don't know what does.
