“Do you think Indiana Jones is hot?”

Without missing a beat, Julia answers with a question. “Are we talking before or after Ally McBeal cut off his balls and slapped an earring on his ass?”

My eyes fly open and I look at her. She’s still in complete and utter repose and doesn’t seem at all caught off guard by my question.

“What are you talking about?” I ask.

“You’re asking me if Harrison Ford is hot, yes?” I mumble a yes, and then she opens her eyes and calmly says, “Well, if we’re talking about before Ally got her hands on him, yes, he was so utterly hot it was almost disgusting. But if we’re talking about after she got her grubby little paws on him and ruined it for the rest of all woman¬kind, then no, he’s as far away from hot as you could possibly get.”

I rack my brain for a second before saying, “Before. Yes, defi¬nitely before the whole Ally thing happened to him.”

“Well, then, you know my answer. Hot, superhot.” She closes her eyes again before quickly opening one of them to look at me.

“Why are you asking me this anyway?”

“No reason.”

Ugh, I answered way too fast. And by the severely wicked smile that is now growing on Julia’s face, I know she knows that I know something that she doesn’t and won’t let up until she does.

“You dirty little liar,” she says and pulls her legs off of the coffee table. “Tell me everything.”

“There’s nothing to tell.” I pretend to look at the watch that doesn’t exist on my wrist. “Oh, would you look at that, time to get Josie and go home.”

I stand up and call out to Josie, then remember that she has her earbuds in, so I walk toward the television room. But that’s enough time for Julia to start following me and peppering me with a series of questions. “Who is this Indiana Jones look-alike? Where did you meet him? Are you going out on a date with him?”

Ignoring her is not an option, so I stop abruptly, which makes Julia run right into my back. As casually as I can muster, I say, “It’s nothing and no, I am not going out with anyone. So there really isn’t anything to tell, I promise.”

COVER + EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY: WHEREVER IT LEADS BY ADRIANA LOCKE!!!

Title: Wherever It Leads
Series/Standalone: Standalone
Author: Adriana Locke
Release Date: February 15, 2016

SYNOPSIS:
Smooth. Sexy. Irresistible.
Those qualities equal only one thing.
Big. Freaking. Trouble.
Brynne Calloway knows that anything that seems too good to be true usually is. Fenton Abbott and his cashmere voice, Adonis body, and a magnetism like no other clearly falls into that category. But what’s life without a little risk?
It was supposed to be a rebound, an uncomplicated escape from reality. But nothing ever goes as planned. Fenton turns out to be so much more … in ways Brynne never sees coming.

I pull out a cute emerald green dress. I brought a bright yellow bikini that would look really cute under it. Tossing my things around in the suitcase, I come up empty handed. Staring at my luggage, I realize I don't see any of the five bikinis I brought.

Dashing into the closet, I look on the rack where I hung the red one up from yesterday.

Gone.

"That fucker."

"Who?"

I spin around to see Fenton leaning against the doorframe. His blue tie is loose, his jacket missing, his hair a mussed-up, yummy mess.

"The thief," I say, hands on my hips, trying to hide my desire to wrap my legs around his waist and kiss the hell out of him.

"We have a thief?" He watches me with complete sincerity, like he has no clue what I'm talking about.

"We do. And he seems to have a penchant for my bikinis."

"Huh."

"Yeah," I say, traipsing over to him. "And nobody likes a thief."

"You know what else nobody likes?" He shoves off the frame and wraps his hands around my waist, lacing his fingers together in the dip at the small of my back. "Girls that can't listen."

"I’ve never been a good listener,” I sigh dramatically. “I just make things happen ... like when my bikinis get stolen, I just call the concierge and have them bring me another one up. Something skimpy and very, very sexy.”

He smacks my ass, making me yelp.

“And I charged it to your room since you stole my others. Thief."

“Did you really have them bring you another one?” he chuckles, a sinful smirk on his face. He’s trying to figure out how to handle me, yet still get his way.

“No,” I give in, as his lips find the crook of my neck. “But I hadn’t ruled it out.”

"You're going to make me crazy, you know that?"

He brushes his lips to mine and, in a split second, has me forgetting all about the bikinis. I’m focused solely on getting him out of his suit.

As soon as I step into my apartment, I know something’s off. The air feels charged somehow, not like the desolate box I left this morning that only I’ve been inside of for the last few days. And the smell permeating the apartment – heavenly. I would assume I’d left something in the oven, except I don’t cook – ever. Should I call what’s his name back?

Fool that I am, instead of fleeing the scene of a potential homicide – my own – I walk as quietly as I can down the hall toward the kitchen. It’s bright in there for an ax murderer, and most psychopaths in my limited experience don’t hum Benny And the Jets while sautéing dinner. As soon as I enter the kitchen, a well-muscled back and broad shoulders block whatever is cooking on the stovetop. Even though my potential perpetrator faces away from me, I’d know that burnished hair, the wide, hard slope of those shoulders, and that ass anywhere.

“Bishop?” I’m scared to say his name aloud in case he’s some fevered hallucination the sound of my voice would dispel.

But he turns, a wide smile on those full lips, and opens his arms for me. That’s the only invitation I need. I drop my purse and am across the kitchen practically before it hits the floor. His arms are the sanctuary I’ve needed. Standing here in this circle of comfort, completely enclosed by his scent and his warmth, I feel safe for the first time since he boarded that plane last week.

“You’re here.” I whisper into his neck. “I thought…you aren’t due back for another few days.”

“This is true.” The deep timber of his voice rolls through me like a tremor. He pulls back to cup my face in his hands, and search my eyes. “I wrapped things up early.”

Whatever. Couldn’t care less. He could tell me South Africa floated into the wild blue yonder and he paddled all the way to New York on a piece of driftwood. I wouldn’t ask any questions. All that matters is that he’s here. My fingers wind into his hair, pulling him down and close enough to kiss. We skip slow, sweet kisses and cannon straight to desperate, our groans and panting the only sounds in the kitchen while we devour each other. I can’t stretch my mouth wide enough. Can’t touch enough of him at one time. I need more hands, more nerve endings to absorb this thrill, these sensations.

Trevor hoists me up, and my legs wrap around his waist. He reaches behind him to turn off the food and walks down the hall and toward my bedroom. It’s too far. I can’t wait. I’m too empty. I need him to fill me right here, right now.

“Now, Bishop,” I say against his lips. “Fuck me against the wall. I want…please. Right now.”

Wordlessly, he turns me against the wall. I lock my legs around him tighter while he undoes his belt buckle. The sound of his zipper sliding open has me dripping, has my chest heaving with anticipation. He leans in, taking my mouth captive and then sliding his tongue down my neck.

“Your breasts,” he mutters into the silk collar of my blouse “I want to see them.”

I brace one hand against his shoulder while the other scrambles to loosen the buttons on my blouse, baring the almost transparent bra. My nipples are so swollen from the thought of him, they press painfully against the sheer cups. I tug one satiny shell down to expose my breast. His eyes eat at my naked skin, and his hands slip beneath my arms, lifting me until my breasts are right at his mouth. His lips take my nipple, suckling me, the sound wet and erotic in the silent apartment. Every pull and tug churns the want in my belly, from my core, through my heart until every part of me is electrified with need.

“Are you sure you’re ready?” His words singe the delicate skin around my nipple.

I nod my head frantically, so hollow, so aching and empty waiting for him.

He pulls away to look at me, desire zip lining between our eyes.

“Check and make sure.” He glances at the space where our bodies interlock, the juncture of my thighs, and then raises his stare back up to sear me.

My eyes never leaving his, I slide my hand beneath my skirt and into my panties, rubbing my fingers into the wet flesh there.

“Show me,” he says, eyes almost black, his voice a husky rasp.

Title: The Mother Road
Standalone - NA Romantic Comedy
Author: Meghan Quinn
Release Date: January 12, 2016
PURCHASE HERE - AMAZON $3.99

SYNOPSIS:
Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.
It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.
What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV.

HOLY MOTHER OF BOOK MAGIC!!!!!!
HOLY FLANNEL WEARING-HOT DOG EATING-GOAT MILKING-SEXY-FARMTASTIC-RUSTIC-ALPHA MAN.
HOLY CRAPPPPPPP!

PORTER-FREAKIN-SMITH IS MINE.

I want to get that out of the way now before we go any further with this review!! Don't even think of COMING close to my man.

I'm flying to Cali, searching out Marley, and stealing Porter for ME!!!! **cue maniacal laugh** AH! My God. Hahahahaha! Just kidding...well sort of. I just can't tone my book buzzing, crazy down.

My heart and my squishy belly (don't judge--I have so many books to read I'm practically drowning, so yeah... working on the abs... not happening) Anyway... as I was saying, my heart and my squishy belly dipped like crazy for him.

I couldn't stop swooning.
I COULD NOT STOP.
It was crazy.

At one point, I was sighing so blissfully and so heavily, my Husband looked at me and said, "What's got you all happy over there."
I didn't answer. After all, I didn't want to give him a complex. If I went into everything that was so amazing about Porter Smith... well, the poor guy.
So I just smiled sweetly and held up my Kindle in response.

But what I really wanted to say was, "It's not what, baby, it's WHO!!!!!!!!! It's Porter! Porter, the King of ALL book boyfriend magic. The man I want to eat up. Porter, who is sweet and sexy, possessive and protective, funny and flannel wearing, lumberjack looking, perfection. With his ovary busting smirk, his adorable chuckles, and his all-encompassing swoon, it's Porter. It's PORTER, the man with a heart of pure gold, the one I'm in love with. The man I just want to DEVOUR again and again."

GAHHHHH! He has me tied up in knots. KNOTS, I tell ya!

And Marley is just as magical, with her quick whit, charming personality, and totally off the hook humor, well I'm stolen by her as well. I love these characters. And I more than adore their story. I'm not sure why I haven't read a Meghan Quinn book before now, but I CLEARLY missed the "THIS AUTHOR WILL ROCK YOUR FACE OFF" book memo. I must have been napping, failing at life as a reader and a blogger, because right under my nose was an author who was going to give me EVERYTHING I need in a read.

SEX.
SWOON.
STEAMY BUILD UP.
FUNNY. OTT/SOMETIMES CRUDE HUMOR.
TEARS. <<--- Yessssss.... the feels even got me to shed some tears. AH! I CRIED.
LOVABLE CHARACTERS that I can relate to.
GREAT WRITING.

There's so much goodness in The Mother Road. So much so, it's brimming with fantasticness on every page.

Goodness!!!! **tries to rein in the swoon**

Okay, so what's this about?

Well, Marley gets an unexpected visit from her Dad and her brother Paul.

Let me say something about Paul before I go on. That man is a freaking princess. He's such a girl. He was so funny. Honestly, the laughs that he provided were PRICELESS. Actually, all the side characters really brought so much to this story.

Anyway... So Paul and Bernie have driven from NY to CALIFORNIA to pick up Marley. They sweetly inform her that they're taking the last road trip her mother had planned **cue feelssssss... wipes tears - Marley's mom passsed away** and they're doing it RIGHT NOW. They've brought Tacy along for the ride--their 1980's RV--and they're ready to hit The Mother Road as an ode to her mom.

Marley, being the cool chick she is (a beauty blogger who test products for a living), is happy to go. She can work from the RV and she's happy to spend some time with her Brother who's getting married, and her Dad who she adores. And so, they set forth on this journey and along the way they pick up... AHHHHH!

Guess who they pick up? **dramatic music now plays in this review**

YES... THEY PICK UP PORTER SMITH *angels break into song and dance** (giggles... Jeeezzzz.. I'm lame, but this review is so fun to write... anywhooo...)

Porter is Paul's BFF and a huge part of the family. And while picking up Porter is awesome for us, it's not so much for Marley. You see, this delicious man broke our precious Marley's heart. She's just can't get over it. So Marley sets out to make Porter miserable...

Why don’t we try to enjoy each other’s company rather than be at each other’s throats?”
Marley’s facial expressions are impossible to read right now as she steps closer to me. “Don’t count on it, Porter. I plan on making your life a living hell on this RV.”
"Is that right?” Challenge is in her eyes.
"Oh, yeah. Watch your back, Smith, I’m coming for you, and you know what? Pay back is a b_ch.”
"Pay back for what?” I ask, semi-liking the fire I see spouting off of her.
She gets on her tippy toes and whispers in my ear. “For splitting my heart in half and leaving me to bleed on my own.” <<--- She's a little pissed off... Haha.

And from there the journey begins...

The book is SO FUN AND SO SWEET. The build up of feels between Porter and Marley is heart tugging and emotional. And the steamy side of things is down right lip licking-shiver worthy- perfection. These characters are perfect.

Meghan Quinn wrote a story that held everything I could ever want. Reading The Mother Road was a pleasure, one that satisfied me on so many levels. It's crazy to say, but I'm pretty sure this will go down as one of my TOP 2016 reads. The year is just starting, but this book owned every single bit of me. And I can't get over just how incredible it was. It went BEYOND anything I expected. I more than loved it. And I MORE than recommend it.

Angie's Rating:

“One more letter to go.” She dances around me, pumping her arms at her chest, excitement running through her. “You’re going down, Smith.”

Cracking my knuckles and stretching my arms, I say, “I’ve been holding back, trying to make you feel better about yourself.”

“Okay,” she rolls her eyes.

Placing her hands on the ground, she lowers her head flat against the floor and then kicks her feet up into a headstand. I’m in awe just from the headstand, but then she bows her back and lowers her feet until they touch her head.

Warmth rushes through me from the sight of her. I thought I was horny when I woke up; nope, I’ve never wanted someone as much I did right here, right now. Maybe I am a perv…

She lowers herself, brushes her hands off, and then points to the floor for me to copy her. Knowing full well I can’t do that, I don’t even attempt it. Instead, I bullshit her because I’m pretty damn good at that.

“You see, when I started the competition, I really thought you wanted to do basic poses. I failed to mention that I recently saw my doctor, who said I shouldn’t be doing my advanced yoga moves just yet because of the accident.”

“The accident?” she asks skeptically.

“Yup, got kicked in the ribs by a goat. Hoof to the kidney, actually. They were afraid of internal bleeding and all, so that’s why I can’t do a lot of bending. It’s best we call this a tie and move on with our day.”

“A tie? You wish! Face it, Porter.” She steps up to my bare chest and pokes it. “Oo, that’s hard.” She laughs to herself while shaking her finger, but then continues her lecture. “You lost. It’s time to get your girly screams ready because you owe me a Bernie startle.”

“He’ll chop my balls off.” My nerves are on edge just from the thought of screaming in the RV.

“Don’t sign up for a challenge you can’t handle.”

Determination and mirth run through her eyes. I knew I shouldn’t have signed up to play her flexibility game, but I really wanted to spend some more alone time with her, which has now come back to bite me in the ass.

I cough and tap my throat. “Not sure how much I will be able to scream. I’m feeling a bit hoarse right now.”

“You’re ridiculous. You’re going to make out on this bet.”

“Making out? Now that’s something I can do,” I say, while grabbing her waist and pulling her in close. It’s meant to be a joke, but once her warm body is against mine, I actually consider leaning my head down.

By the shocked look in her eyes, she might be thinking the same exact thing.

The tip of her tongue wets her lips as her hand comes up to my chest to steady herself. I can feel goosebumps spread across her skin as my hand spans the width of her back. She searches my eyes, asking me what I’m doing, but I have no answers.

The need to kiss her is overpowering. I want to feel those lips of hers against mine, her fingers tangled in my hair, her leg wrapped around mine.

I’m seconds away from plunging forward when I hear the RV door slam shut. I push her away just in time for Paul to walk through the door, not bothering to knock. He’s holding his crotch and sprinting toward the bathroom.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if "It's Raining Men" starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing... enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Makenna James and Caden Grayson have been inseparable since the day they were trapped in a pitch-black elevator and found acceptance and love in the arms of a stranger. When meeting her family doesn’t go smoothly, Caden questions whether Makenna deserves someone better, stronger, and just more…normal. Maybe they’re too different—and he’s far too damaged—after all…
PURCHASE HERE:
I read Hearts in Darkness almost 4 years ago! For such a quick novella, Laura Kaye's steamy romance about two strangers who met and fell in love in a dark elevator after a power failure left them stranded really stuck with me. I did a quick reread just before starting Love in the Light to refresh my memory on the little details I may have forgotten and I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did I remember it as if I'd read it yesterday, but I liked it even more the second time around.

Caden Grayson and Makenna James truly connected with each other's hearts hours before they laid eyes on each other in Hearts in Darkness. Kaye penned a beautiful story of raw chemistry, of soul mates finding themselves drawn to the heart of a stranger before physical attraction could even factor in. But what would happen later? How would Caden and Makenna fair out in the real world, outside the elevator that started it all? What would their love look like once they came out of the darkness and into the light?

I so appreciated where Laura Kaye chose to open up this story, with Love In The Light picking up just mere weeks after the prequel left off. My biggest fear with reading a series, especially in a case like this where years have passed since the last book was written and released, is the characters changing so drastically that I feel a disconnect between each book, like I'm reading about new characters altogether. That didn't happen here at all. Caden and Makenna picked up right where Kaye left them years ago, but that span of time felt nonexistent, the prequel transitioning fluidly into this unputdownable full length novel that really delves much deeper into these beloved characters and their love story but maintains the integrity of the broken Caden and feisty Makenna we met so long ago.

This might just be my new favorite Laura Kaye romance. I LOVED everything about this book, from the mundane holidays with the James family, to the truly heart-wrenching course of events that evolves throughout the story, to the way Kaye really connected me with her characters and allowed me to love them even more deeply than I had before. This story is the complete package, wrought with sweetness and steam, angst and heartbreaking curve balls, hope, healing, and a love that overcomes all obstacles. I never wanted this book to end. Love in the Light is my first 5 STAR read of the year  and I can only hope 2016 is filled with a lot more where this one came from!

Jessica's Rating:

“So Caden said you two met in an elevator,” the tattoo artist said to Makenna, amusement plain in his voice.

“We really did. We were trapped in it for over four hours,” Makenna said, smiling. It was a little weird to talk to someone she couldn’t look at, but she couldn’t move while he was working. “In my office building. I rode it just today.”

“That’s quite a way to meet someone,” Heath said with a chuckle. “How come nothing like that ever happens to me?”

“Maybe you don’t ride enough elevators,” Makenna said.

The tattoo machine pulled away from her skin. Heath laughed. “I guess I don’t,” he finally said, leaning back in.

The needles hit a sensitive spot along her spine that had Makenna grimacing. Originally, she’d been thinking of putting the piece on her shoulder, but when she’d decided on the bigger size, she thought it would look better in the center. Heath had warned her that the central placement meant inking over bone, which could hurt more, and it sure did.

Caden braced his elbows on his knees so he could lean closer. “Want to play twenty questions?” he asked.

She smiled, knowing he was trying to distract her and appreciating the heck out of the gesture. “Are there still questions left we haven’t asked each other?”

“Probably,” he said. “For example, I don’t think I’ve ever asked you your favorite sex position.”

“No laughing,” Heath said, as Makenna tried to hold back her humor. Heat filled her cheeks. “Also, TMI. However, I like TMI, so feel free to answer, Makenna.”

Since the needle was away from her skin, she did laugh that time. “Okay, so maybe there are questions we haven’t asked.” She winked at Caden as Heath got back to work. “And, to answer the question, the second part of the night on my floor.”

Caden’s gaze went molten. He flicked at the spider bite piercings with his tongue. And that had parts of her going molten, because she knew how freaking talented that tongue was.

“Yours?” she asked, arching an eyebrow.

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she's going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.
It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over
Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.
I LOVE this series. It's one of my FAVORITE NA Sports Romance Series to date. With characters that make you smile, stories that are both fun and sexy, and emotion's that run the gamut from swoony flutters to down right heart ache, it's a win win all around. And I find that with each installment I grow more and more attached to these characters. I simply never want them to end.

Between Garrett, Logan, and now Dean, I've fallen in love. I adore these boys and I LOVE that we get to see each of them in all the books. To say it rocks is an understatement.

Dean is the resident bad boy of the group. With his devil may care attitude, he's seemingly carefree. As Briar University's unabashed manwhore, he lives by his own set of rules--the life of Dean, according to him--and he loves it.

Emotionally Dean comes across as detached--at least to me he did. I mean, sure he loves and cares about his friends, but he never really gives 100% of himself. He seems skate by, giving what's needed, but never going the extra mile. He most certainly doesn't do relationships. Has no intention of ever going there. At times he comes across as a douche, to be frank. BUT under all that bravado, is an incredibly sweet man with a heart of pure gold.

Allie Haye's is Hannah's roommate--Garrett's GF from The Deal. After a particularly bad break up to her long time love, she's desperate for sometime to regroup and move on. But unfortunately Sean, the ex, is not quite over Allie and is not letting her go peacefully. He wants to make up and he's ready to do anything he needs to make that happen.

With Hannah and Garrett gone for some weekend fun, Allie's left to fend for herself and she desperately needs an escape plan to avoid Sean. Somehow (Hahahaha! Sorry, I can't help but laugh) she ends up sharing a room with Dean and well.... **giggles**

This story is about two people hooking up-- one on the rebound, the other just doing what he wants. But what's simply a hookup at first eventually turns into a really heart tugging friendship between to connected souls. It's sweet and endearing, heart felt and super sexy.

Dean's one kinky, dirty man, and Allie is his perfect partner in crime.

I really loved the pacing of the novel, the way the relationship slowly built and blossomed between the two of them. I liked watching Allie as she peeled back Deans layers, exposing the gentle, delicious man beneath. And I really LOVED watching Dean fall slowly for Allie, realizing that he wanted more for himself and for his life.

Again, I love these characters. And I LOVE this series. There's really nothing to say except this installment was fantastic and I'm really eager for Tucker's book.

The Score can be read as a standalone, though I don't recommend doing that. It's not that you can't, it's just that Deans book is so much better once you've read The Deal and The Mistake first.

These characters are so refreshing. They're so real. And their stories are really perfect. I think you'll love them. I did. It's impossible not to.

Angie's Rating:

The Score is a hypnotic, sensual NA sports romance that took me back to the way I felt when I read Thoughtless and Beautiful Disaster. The premise is nothing like those other books and there's certainly no annoying female leads, but anyone who loved them knows precisely the way they felt when they read them the first time. The Score took me back to that place, when I just got lost in the romance and the steam and the angst of a really gripping college romance. Books are my drug, and The Score is one of those rare finds that had me instantly addicted and left me craving another fix as soon as I turned the last page.

Briar hockey player, Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis, and drama student, Allie Hayes, are part of the same circle of friends. Their mutual friends and roommates fell in love in previous books in this series. Allie knows Dean as the team manwhore, Allie is pretty much off Dean's radar completely... until a random encounter kick starts a perfectly messy friends with benefits arrangement. These characters are magnetic all by themselves. Through their alternating first person points of view, I connected with them both completely and immediately. I LOVED THEM. But together, their chemistry is explosive. This book made my insides scream. I had a visceral need to see this story evolve, yet I NEVER wanted it to end. I won't get into plot details, but I'll just say that this book delivers every single thing I crave in a really great NA romance... believability, authentic dialogue, a fluid plot rife with angst and a slow burn, fiercely magnetic characters and stellar writing. It's the perfect package.

The Score is, hands down, my favorite book in this series. Elle Kennedy upped her game in every aspect of the crafting of this book... the story telling, the character development, the layering of this fluid plot, the exquisite writing style, the build and timing... all of it, just top notch. I've thoroughly enjoyed every book in this sports romance series, but The Score just blew me away, captivated me from the very beginning, consumed me until the very last page.

I've been reading new adult college romances pretty consistently for the last 3 or 4 years. Only a handful of those books have given me that quintessential giddy high, that rush you get when a book hits all the right spots, that feeling of being drugged in a state of romance euphoria. This book is now up there with the others that have given me that rush, the ones I always go back to for a reread when I want to feel all those feels. The Score scored BIG. With its laugh-out-loud moments, it's unbelievably heartbreaking curve balls, the mounting sexual tension and inevitable melt-your-panties encounters, the reluctant romance, the steadfast friendships, the growth of these magnetic characters, all seamlessly woven together with Elle Kennedy's addictive writing that seems to get stronger with each subsequent book she writes. The Score is a win.

With the turn of the very first page of F*ck Love came two hungry hands that reached into my chest and clutched my heart. I felt like I was being squeezed as I read, clawed at the most unexpected times. It's such an inexplicable effect Tarryn Fisher has on a reader and I wasn't prepared for my PTSD from LMWL to rear it's ugly, beautiful head so starkly, so unexpectedly, so immediately. This story was nothing like LMWL, an altogether different storyline transpires within these pages, but somehow such similar emotions seep through her words. There's this unexplainable sense of foreboding in this story, a melancholy tone carrying me along as I read, similar to the somber tone that wept from The Opportunist. It's difficult and delicious all at once.

Fisher's writing in this book is so smart, so wickedly honest, so gritty. It's melty and jagged and exquisite all at once. Her characters are just the same. It's near impossible not to fall in love with them and their quirks and their snark, but there's an authenticity about them that makes them rough around the edges, ugly in all of their glorious humanity. Tarryn Fisher consistently crafts her stories around the ugly side of love, the wicked, hurtful, flawed side of her characters and F*ck Love is no different in that respect. And when a story is that honest, when characters are that real, anything can happen. This story is painfully unpredictable and I both hated and loved that. F*ck Love filled me with a twisted, tangled mess of hope and dread, joy and sadness, longing and fear. I don't trust this author. I don't know what to expect with her stories, how much realness will be woven into this fiction, how angry or spiteful or content she may have felt while writing THE END. I'm not convinced this author believes in cookie-cutter romances or happy endings and for a romance reader, there's nothing more terrifying.

"But perhaps art isn’t supposed to make you feel good, but just to make you feel. Does it cure the numb? I don’t know." <---That. That's the perfect way to describe my insides as I read F*ck Love. Did I feel good while reading this book? F*ck no. I felt empty. I felt dread. I felt honest to God fear that I would come away feeling terrible once it was over. But I felt. And that's the point, isn't it? This book is some kind of dark and twisted torture. The glutton in me held on to hope for some sweet, heartfelt conclusion, but the darker side of me that enjoys the pleasure pain of heartbreak, the brutality of loss, the grief of unrequited love... well, that reader was just happy to hurt.

This story is messy and heavy and it makes you question everything. What is right and wrong anyway? What constitutes bravery and strength and weakness? Is it ever okay to covet thy best friend's boyfriend even when a connection feels so real and right and wrong all at once? I questioned the authenticity and bias of every player in this game. Were they all genuine victims to an onslaught of unexpected, unwanted feelings? Or were they all soulless liars? F*ck Love is a thought provoking, emotionally-taxing gut punch that drowned me in an odd state of mania where I forgot what's right, what's wrong, what can never be, and I just hoped that Tarryn Fisher wasn't feeling especially maniacal when she wrote the last chapter and that maybe I'd be able to function at life in the days ahead. That still remains to be seen.

“You are supposed to be with me.”

What words are these? They startle me, and at first I think I’ve heard him wrong. He’s leaning across the table while our significant others are twenty feet away, waiting in line for our food.

“You and me,” he says. “Not us and them.”

I blink at him before I realize he’s making a joke. I laugh and go back to looking at my magazine. Actually, it’s not really a magazine. It’s a math journal, because I’m super cool like that.

“Helena…” I don’t look up right away. I’m afraid to. If I look up and see that he’s not joking, everything will change.

“Helena.” He reaches out and touches my hand. I jump, pull back. My chair makes a horrid scraping sound, and Neil looks over. I pretend that I dropped something and reach under the table. Under the table are our shoes and legs. There is a blue crayon lying at my feet; I pick it up and resurface.

Neil is at the front of the line ordering our food, and my best friend’s boyfriend is waiting for my response, his eyes heavy with burden.

“Are you drunk?” I hiss. “What the fuck?”

“No,” he says. Though he doesn’t look so sure. For the first time, I notice the scruff on his face. The skin around his eyes is sallow. He’s going through something, maybe? Life is being bullshit.

“If this is a joke, you’re making me really uncomfortable,” I tell him. “Della is right there. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“I only have ten minutes, Helena.” His eyes move to the blue crayon, which is resting between our hands.

“Ten minutes for what? You’re sweating,” I say. “Did you take something, are you on the crack?” What type of drugs make you sweat like that? Crack? Heroine?

I want Neil and Della to come back. I want everything to go back to normal. I spin around to see where they are.

“Helena…”

“Stop saying my name like that.” My voice shakes. I make to stand up, but he grabs the crayon, then my hand.

“I don’t have much time. Let me show you.”

He’s sitting very still, but his eyes remind me of a cornered animal: frightened, panicked, bright. I’ve never seen that look on his face, but since Della’s only been dating him for a few months, it’s a moot point. I don’t really know this guy. He could be a druggie for all I know. He turns my hand over so it’s palm up, and I let him. I don’t know why, but I do.

He places the crayon in my palm and closes my fist around it.

“You have to say it out loud,” he says. “Show me, Kit.”

“Say it, Helena. Please. I’m afraid of what will happen if you don’t.”

Because he looks so afraid, I say it.

“Show me, Kit.” And then, “Should I know what this is?”

“No one should,” he says. And then everything goes black.

‘Not in a million years, kid.’

‘No.’

‘NOT INTERESTED.’

‘Get the fuck out of my face!’

Four cities in two days, and more doors slammed in my face than I can count. I sling my backpack over my shoulder and scratch another name from my list.

Hopping on to a bus and hopping off thirty minutes later, I scan the mix of both commercial and apartment numbers down the block, then knock on my last door.

“Coach Hennesy?”

He’s a tall man, his hair like pepper, clad in sweats, with a yellow timer hanging from his neck. He gives me a questioning look.

“I’m your next champion.”

He laughs, but then he must see something on my face. In my stance. Thirst, resoluteness, guts. Maybe I’m wearing my balls in my eyes. He falls sober and swings the door wide-open. “Come on in.”

He doesn’t ask for my name.

I guess with one look, he knows he’ll find my name in the dictionary, right next to “determined.”

He leads me to his garage. “Where’d you train before?” he asks.

“Self-taught. I watch videos.”

He scoffs, then shrugs. “Okay, let’s see what you’ve got.”

I eye the equipment across the room. The heavy bag hangs from the ceiling, the leather worn from other fighters before me. There’s a boxing dummy at the corner. Speed bag. Weights. A whole private gym set up here. I drop both my bags, then zip open my backpack and start to put on the gloves without bothering to remove my hoodie.

“Take that off; I need to know what you’ve got. Need to see your form,” Hennesy says.

I clench my jaw. Slowly unzip my hoodie. Take it off and glance past my shoulder, shifting to keep my back from the coach’s view. The guy is clearing the fighting area. Good. We can get down to business. He walks to me when I face him.

“Give it over.” I hand him my hoodie and he tosses it aside, then crosses his arms and looks at me. “Speedball first.”

I inhale, position myself before the speedball, and hit. Wham.

I keep on hitting, lightning fast, my fists making the bag fly.

I would have warmed up first, but I’ve been doing this for days, and I won’t stop until I’ve got myself a coach—and not even then.

I’ve got momentum now, and I pick up speed, my arms moving back and forth, working the speed bag until it’s moving so fast you can’t even see it.

I’m starting to sweat; it’s stuffy in here, but I can’t stop. I need him to take me on. I need one yes to get me in the ring. Just one yes and I’ll do the rest.

“Time.” Hennesy stops me. He signals to the boxing dummy and the heavy bag. “Let’s see you pound the bag.”

I swing out and slam my knuckles on the bag, putting everything into my fists. Thack, thump, thud.

Hennesy’s composure starts to crumble with excitement. “Holy shit, boy!”

I’m getting in to it. I’m in the zone—where it’s just me, the leather brown bag, my fists, and nothing else but slamming the spot I’m looking at.

“I’ve seen enough.” He stops the bag from swinging. His eyes glassy. “Fill this out.”

I pull off my right glove and grab a pen as he slaps a paper onto a desk at the corner. I bend down to fill out my name and contact information and realize, too late, that I exposed the tattoo on my back.

“You’re his boy.”

I freeze midsignature.

A second ticks by. Then two.

I slowly set the pen down and take one last look at the paper. I might not get to fill it out after all. I turn.

His face has paled.

I wait it out for a few beats. Maybe he’s different. Maybe he can deal with it.

He tosses my jacket at me. “Get out. Nobody wants to see you fight.”

I frown fiercely as I catch my jacket in my fist and edge forward, equally mad now. “That’s too damn bad. ’Cause I’m fighting anyway.”

I keep my eyes on him as I pull off my left glove, shove my arms into my hoodie, and zip up.

I walk out and the door slams behind me. I clench my jaw, and I shove my gloves into my bag and spot the old, black gloves inside too. I push them down into the bottom of the duffel bag and zip it up.

The season starts in a week and a half. No coach? No fight. I can’t even get into a gym.

But I won’t let anyone or anything keep me from the ring.

I pick up a penny from the ground.

And I spot a girl in workout clothes across the street, tying her shoelaces. She’s a step away from the gym door. I straighten, pull my hoodie over my head, and cross the street, following after her like I belong.
