SYNOPSIS:
I’m not supposed to be here.
Death has come for me more than once, and each time it’s been a boy who’s stood between me and my final breath.
I called him Christopher when he saved me as a child. When he came into my life again, only months ago, I knew him as Wes. Just as he did the time before, he disappeared the moment he made sure I was out of harm’s way; as if I didn’t need any more saving.
This time, though, death left me with a reminder of how powerful it is. I know it meant to strip me of my spirit again, but it failed.
Even so, I know I need Wes to survive. Our souls are woven together somehow, our every breath in sync. I feel it, even though everyone says I shouldn’t.
The world thinks he’s missing.
His loved ones don’t want to believe he’s dead.
Only I know just how special he is.
I’m going to find him and bring him home, where he belongs. Together, we’ll face impossible—we’ll rewrite our ending.
And when the bad guys come calling, we will always win.

A Girl Like Me is unequivocally my most anticipated read of the year. After the way A Boy Like You left me hanging, I needed answers. I needed to know what would come of Josselyn and if what she suspected of Wes was true. Of course, any book by Ginger Scott leaves me full of anticipation but she's never left me with quite as many unanswered questions as she did in the first half of this duet. I couldn't wait for this sequel, for the conclusion to such an unbelievably spellbinding storyline, for this extraordinary book that ended up being everything I could've hoped for and a million and one things I never could've expected.

A Girl Like Me follows Joss as she seeks out answers she's been searching for her entire life... answers to questions we were also left with after the final page of A Boy Like You. This is as much a story of self discovery and acceptance as it is a romance. It's as much a story about Josselyn finding her own strength as it is a story about a special boy who was always around at precisely the right time... until he wasn't. I was completely gutted by the life Joss had led in the first book. And while much of what evolved in the first book was both healing and encouraging... it also wasn't. Joss was inevitably left broken and alone in an entirely new way when the boy who became her hero disappeared from her life. This continuation of that story, as Joss looks for the truth about her missing boy and his connection to her past, is gut wrenching, tugging the heart strings and knotting my stomach the whole way through. This story is intense. It's emotional. It had me gripping my kindle with white knuckled hands, eagerly devouring each page to see what would happen next.

While it's certainly cryptic and a bit confusing at times, A Girl Like Me is pieced together PERFECTLY. I'll admit I was completely perplexed for much of it, but I was also in awe over how Ginger Scott meticulously crafted this entire storyline. You can't truly appreciate what you've read until you reach the end and can look back at the entire puzzle for what it is. No stone is left unturned, every detail from their childhood to present day fits perfectly into place to illustrate an unbelievably powerful story of love and loyalty and maybe something a little extraordinary. You know the past is somehow intertwined with the present, you know that characters are connected in ways that don't really make sense until they do. You know unbelievable things are happening and that stories have been told, but you really don't know what to believe until everything reveals itself at just the right time. You just have to sit back and let it all unfold before it makes any sense. Because it will. A Girl Like Me is mysterious, completely intriguing, and I was consumed. I was swept away by this beautiful story about a boy that does everything he can to save his world and a girl who finds her own power when her superhero disappears.

A Girl Like Me is a story of impossible things. It's the story of two young people, both abandoned by the people who should've loved them the most, seemingly destined to heal and protect each other's broken parts. It's a story of survival and strength and forgiveness and hope woven seamlessly with the impossible, with mystery, with romance. This duet is unlike anything this author has ever written. This duet is unlike anything I've ever read. This duet is a thought provoking, emotional journey to find answers, to move forward, to find peace. I was completely gripped by what this author created, if for no other reason than to find those answers. My desire to understand the past and the present and what was to come was enough to keep me glued. But the love story between Joss and Wes is something else. It's special. It's sweet and difficult and heartbreaking and beautiful and, at times, incredibly sexy. Combine all of that with this undercurrent of unease that winds through this story, keeping me at the very edge of my seat both dreading and anxious for what was to come, and it all culminates into an unputdownable story I couldn't get enough of.
