Melanie Harlow has been one of my most favorite authors for awhile now. I've read almost all of her books and a good majority of them have been complete winners for me. She knows how to write the sweetest romance and always layers the sex and laughs with a heartfelt message. She's consistent. I know what I'm going to get with her. And I love reading her stories.
If You Were Mine was her BEST work to date. Theo and Claire are such a breath of fresh air. This story is beautiful. It's about letting go of the past and embracing the future whether you think you deserve it or not, whether you think you're worthy or not. I LOVE that message. And I absolutely loved how decadently dirty Theo and Claire were together. In between the romance, the feels, was this delightful chemistry that I just could not get enough of!
Claire is in need of a date for a wedding. Woefully single, she feels lonely and does not want to get caught at the 'singles table' once again. So she goes to the Hotties for Hire site, a website that lets you rent a guy for a night, and get's a man. Theo happens to be Claire's rented hottie and from the moment he sets his eyes on Claire, he's completely smitten. Claire and Theo have a natural chemistry and when they get together, what should be all business, turns into so much more. It's intoxicating.
Theo is a really complicated character. He has so many demons in his past. His fear of commitment is real. And his struggle with abandonment is really heartbreaking. I absolutely loved this man. He was endearing and charming, but so broken, I just wanted to snuggle him all day, every day. Claire is the perfect partner for him and exactly what he needs. But Theo has such a distorted view of love, relationships, even friendships, that it's not an easy ride. Good thing Claire is the definition of forgiveness. She's a compassionate and loving character and the way she take care of the people around her came through so well.
The drama in If You Were Mine felt so realist. Theo and Claire and two characters who are easy to love and definitely easy to root for. Overall, I LOVED it. I loved the sweetness (I keep using this word, but that's just what this story was... sweet) between the two characters. I love how their instant chemistry exploded across the pages. I loved the progression of growth in the story, and I absolutely LOVED that we got to see Jamie and Quinn, and Margot and Jack!
Melanie Harlow is an author who should ABSOLUTELY be in your 'to be read' pile. She's a great writer with stories that are consistently amazing. This was no different, a complete win for me that I highly recommend!
Melanie Harlow likes her martinis dry, her heels high, and her history with the naughty bits left in. When she's not writing or reading, she gets her kicks from TV series like VEEP, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Homeland. She occasionally runs three miles, but only so she can have more gin and steak.
Melanie is the author of the HAPPY CRAZY LOVE series, the FRENCHED series, and the sexy historical SPEAK EASY duet, set in the 1920s. She lifts her glass to romance readers and writers from her home near Detroit, MI, where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and pet rabbit.
